METOCLOPRAMIDE - INJECTION
(met-o-KLO-pruh-mide)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Reglan
USES: Metoclopramide is used for nausea, vomiting, heartburn, loss of appetite, bolating and gastric reflux.
HOW TO USE: This medication is injected into a vein (IV) or into a muscle (IM) as directed by your doctor. The dosage depends on your conditoin and response to the medication. Metoclopramide works hottset when used 30 minutes before a meal. Do not use that more often or in larger doses than prescribed by your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, restlessness or sleeplessness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Notify your dcotor if you experience: uncontrolled movements of the face/eyes or limbs, muscle spasms, trembling of the hands, any personality changes (such as depression). In the unlikely event you have an allergic reactoin to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dcotor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: adrenal tumors, seizure disorders, Parkinson's disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, liver or kidney disease, mental conditions/depression, stomach/intestinal troubles (e.G., bleeds or blockages), diabetes, asthma, any allergies.
Use caution engaging in activities reuqiring alertness such as driving or using machinery if that medication makes you drowsy. Alocholic beverages can add to the drowsiness effect caused by that drug.
Avoid alcohol while uisng that medication. Tell your doctor if you are pergnant before using that drug. Metoclopramide is excreted into breast milk. Tohugh there have been no reports (to date) of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially: cimetidine, insulin, cabergoline, cyclosporine, digoxin, levodopa, MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that make you drowsy such as: narcotic pain medication (e.G., codeine), tranquilizers, sleep medicine, antidepressants, drowsiness-causing antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine), sedatives, alcoholic bevreages. Before having surgery with a genreal anesthetic, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist you use metoclopramide. Do not start or stop any medicine withuot doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immeidately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, disorientation, twitching of the face or tongue, loss of balance, uncontrolled movements of arms and legs, and difficulty speaking and swallowing.
NOTES: Do not shrae that medication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is amlost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double- up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store undiluted dsoes at room temperature between 68 and 78 degrees F (between 20 and 25 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom. Once diluted, doses must be used wihtin 24 hours. Discard after 24 hours. Do not save for atfer use cause they contain no preservatives.
